People of color always have to fight for inclusiveness in every space they find themselves. In most instances, the fight goes nowhere – thus, propelling them to create a table for themselves. The modelling industry is no different as models of color struggle to get high – earned jobs or get featured in campaigns for highly regarded luxury brands. They just are not allowed the autonomy their white peers receive.
In China where hardly any black model is seen, this is no different. It is therefore a huge success for Xian based Ghanaian model, Penny Yeboah, signed with one of the top modelling agencies in Ghana, DSG model management, to be cast as the front of a new campaign for world renowned luxury brands; Gucci, Fendi, Burberry and Balenciaga for SAGA – one of Xian – China’s biggest luxury malls where a store has been opened.
The campaign features a variety of clothes, coats, boots, shoes and bags, showcasing the items that are available at the new outlet.
In the Wei – Guoqiang – lensed images, Yeboah and fellow models are clad in pieces from the ready-to-wear line of the brands and clutches different types of their bags. The campaign runs in magazines, on billboards and also displayed on the front of the Gucci shop in SAGA.
After she emerged winner of the maiden edition of “Face of Methodist University College Ghana” in 2015, Yeboah was scouted by Top Ghanaian modelling and management agency, DSG Model management. Since then, she has worked on various campaigns for different brands.
Here on the continent, she has also worked with luxury brands like Vlisco, So Aesthetics, and R & R Luxury, Netseba, Sika designs among others.
Penny holds a degree in psychology from the Methodist University College here in Ghana, and is currently studying Business Administration for her Masters.
